The Office of University Counsel works closely with Human Resources officials and administrative leadership regarding union negotiations, including dealing with large bargaining units representing employees vital to operations at all campuses.

In addition, the Office of University Counsel is involved with advising senior administrators concerning employment-related transactions and disputes involving all categories of employees, including faculty. The Office of University Counsel attorneys often have significant involvement in negotiating and effectuating high-profile employment agreements, such as senior administrators and athletics personnel.

The Office of University Counsel assists each campus' Human Resources in the interpretation of employment-related policies and laws, including equal opportunity and non-discrimination, labor issues, disability, and sexual harassment. The Office of University Counsel represents the University in grievance matters. The Office of University Counsel does not provide legal advice to employees in their personal matters, including their employment relationship with the University.
