Legislative and Judicial Actions

The Office of University Counsel monitors and evaluates new developments in the law that have the potential to affect the University. This may include working with Governmental Relations in alerting various State and Federal representatives to the University’s interest regarding key legislation and coordinating the filing of amicus briefs related to pending cases.

There are numerous other types of legal work that come into the office including: administration of the legal aspects of gifts and estates; relationship issues with other governmental entities (e.g., local municipalities, IMD, EPA); athletics issues (e.g., sponsorships, compliance); utilities regulatory issues; immigration matters; bankruptcy; export control; and various other issues that arise from the administration of a complex governmental education and healthcare service provider.
