The Office of University Counsel provides advice and counsel to University Related Organizations, which are defined by the Illinois Legislative Audit Commission Guidelines as University foundations, athletic associations, alumni associations, and corporate outgrowths.
- University Related Organizations Created by Board of Trustees (i.e., Research Park, IllinoisVENTURES, WWT, Prairieland Energy, Inc., UI Singapore Research LLC). Attorneys serve as legal counsel to these organizations and provide advice concerning formation and governance as well as various employment, financial, tax, and other operational issues.
- University of Illinois Foundation - The University Counsel assists in the planning for and participates in Board and Committee meetings and advises on all aspects of the Foundation’s activities. The Office of University Counsel has led the Compensation Subcommittee annual compensation review and determination process required by IRS regulations. Additional services include drafting deferred compensation agreements and consulting agreements pertaining to key Foundation personnel.
- University of Illinois Alumni Association - The attorneys provide guidance on matters related to the operations of the Alumni Association.
