Deputy University Counsel/Campus Legal Counsel - Urbana
Steven A. Veazie
As Deputy University Counsel, Steve provides representation and advice, and assists the University Counsel with management of legal services for the Board of Trustees, the President and University officers, and all three campuses of the University. As Campus Legal Counsel, Steve is the lead counsel for the Urbana-Champaign campus, where he is based. His responsibilities include management of the in-house attorneys and outside counsel retained for legal matters arising at the Urbana-Champaign campus. Steve is also involved with University economic development initiatives, including the Research Park and IllinoisVENTURES. Steve served as spokesman for the University in the Graduate Employees Organization representing teaching assistants at the Urbana-Champaign campus. Prior to coming to the University in 1985, Steve was in private practice in Madison, Wisconsin, where he specialized in representation of school districts and other public sector clients in labor relations and non-discrimination matters, and he previously served as legal counsel for the university system of Montana for five years.
