Michael provides legal counsel in connection with the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, specializing in professional negligence litigation and regulatory matters. Prior to joining the Office of University Counsel, Michael worked in private practice at a legal-based consulting firm counseling various health and hospital systems on efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance. His experience includes serving as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Will County in its Civil Division, advising Will County’s Health Department, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and engaging in civil litigation and prosecution on behalf of Will County, including mental health involuntary admissions and treatment petitions. The State’s Attorney selected him to assist in the development of the a Mental Health Court for criminal offenders and he was subsequently selected as its first prosecutor. His experience also includes defending juveniles and indigent adults charged with misdemeanors and felonies as an Assistant Public Defender for the Will County Public Defender’s Office. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College, a Master of Public Health from Benedictine University, and a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law with a certificate in Health Law.
